If you’re a true gourmet, the Journées du Terroir of Sarlat are made for you!
The Journées du Terroir association, the town hall and the Tourist Office of Sarlat join forces to bring local gourmet food to the fore, welcoming you to a programme of unforgettable activities.
On the Thursday and Friday of Ascension weekend, come to Sarlat to meet the local farmers ! To find them, just stroll through the streets of the medieval town centre. And bring a large basket ! Milk, honey, wine, sausages, mushrooms, jams and chestnuts of the Périgord and even caviar from Neuvic… This is one of the major gourmet gatherings of the year !
Along the way, the stands invite you to taste and purchase local products such as strawberries, walnuts and – lest we forget – delicious foie gras of Sarlat (, prepared with duck or goose of the Périgord. Stop over at the craft beer stand and don’t miss a taste of Périgord truffles or local cheese!

The Sarlat Theatre Festival

The Festival des Jeux du Théâtre of Sarlat (Sarlat Theatre Festival) is the foremost theatre festival of the Aquitaine and one of the most renowned in France!
From the second half of July to the beginning of August, the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda undergoes a metamorphosis, setting the stage for the Festival des Jeux du Théâtre! For an open-air performance, head for Place de la Liberté in front of the town hall, the Jardin des Enfeus (behind the Cathedral) and the Sainte-Claire abbey courtyard! Young spectators, head for the Jardin du Plantier!

Sarlat, the capital of the Périgord Noir, has managed to preserve the integrity of its old buildings and is now one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe.
With the help of a guide, discover its winding streets, its vaulted passages, its cathedral and its 15th and 16th century town houses.
The ochre stone of the facades comes to life, the windows sculpted in the Renaissance open onto the past of the most illustrious Sarladais.
Centuries of history unfold during the visit.
Famous events are of course evoked, but certain well-kept secrets will also be revealed.
