Each year during the month of September, the town of Sarlat participates in the national celebration of gourmet food. This convivial showcase for the region's epicurean delights will focus on two emblematic products: lamb raised in the fields around Sarlat and Sarlat-style potatoes.

Ah, Sarlat. What better place to celebrate gourmet food? Each year, Sarlat, the capital of the Périgord noir, serves up a variety of events - of which the majority revolve around food - with repercussions that stretch well beyond the city limits.

The truffle festival (fête de la truffe) and culinary academy (académie culinaire) in January, the goose festival (fête de l’oie) in February, and regional product days (journées du terroir) in May have become pivotal events for supporters of local fare, contributing to the development of the products and the gourmet image of the town.

The municipality, tourist board and association Les Journées du Terroir have joined forces to participate in the national event "Fête de la Gastronomie" (gourmet celebration days). For two mouth-watering days in September, join us at Place de la Rigaudie for a focus on lamb raised in the fields around Sarlat and Sarlat-style potatoes.

Sarlat revived its shepherding tradition in 2011. Three shepherds joined the movement with the support of the Regional Committee for Agricultural Development (CRDA).

These herdsmen, who were already participants in the town's regional product days, will return for these gourmet celebration days with a herd of nearly 150 sheep. Hikers who would like to follow their procession are invited to a picnic in Proissans sponsored by the village bakery and butcher's shop. The herd will then make its way toward Sarlat (Place de la Grande Rigaudie), stopping over at La Croix d'Allon for coffee, croissants and a sheepdog demonstration.

During the event, visitors may enjoy a taste of the local specialities on farmer's stands and participate in workshops and demonstrations. A special children's stand hosted by the municipal school cafeteria will be there to initiate kids in cooking techniques. The famous tomato tourin, a local soup, will be served to the morning visitors.
Saturday evening and Sunday morning, you may enjoy grilled lamb and Sarlat-style potatoes on site.

Come experience a week at the heart of the cinema !

The Sarlat Film Festival is one of the major festivals of the French cinematographic world.
It is recognised for its national importance, and is supported by institutions at all levels: local, departemental, regional and national.

This festival is also well-known to cinema personalities who gather each year to present their latest works. You just might come across some of the greatest French directors and actors of the last twenty years as they stroll through the streets of Sarlat.

The festival was founded for educational purposes, and it is attended each year by six hundred secondary school students from all over France involved in the "Terminale L Option Cinéma" programme. The festival offers these students a special preparation for their A-levels through lectures and other film-related encounters. They also enjoy the opportunity to view the nominated films and meet the film crews visiting Sarlat for the occasion.

The Sarlat Film Festival invites locals and visitors of the region to attend sneak previews of the best film productions of the moment.
