Spring & Summer events in Dordogne Valley

Two days dedicated to the terroir in Sarlat : 10th and 11th May

These Terroir Days are organised by the Sarlat town hall, its tourist board, and the Journées du Terroir association.

This event offers the opportunity to discover or re-discover the authenticity, traditions and quality of the gourmet products of the Périgord Noir.

From now on, a farm and organic produce centre join the event's emblematic stands and children's activities.

This annual event is appreciated by locals and visitors alike, as demonstrated by its high attendance each spring.

On Ascension Thursday and Friday, the heart of the town fill with regional producers who all share the same enthusiasm for sharing their expertise and the gourmet treasures of the Périgord.

Strawberries, walnuts, fattened poultry, cured meats, truffles, milk, honey, liqueurs and eaux-de-vies will be presented along Place de la Liberté, Place Boissarie and Place du Peyrou.

Throughout these two days, enjoy tastings and other activities, including goose carving, walnut oil pressing, jam preparation and a number of other expert demonstrations.

The children's area is always popular, and this year it will be even bigger, including art and make-up workshops as well as the old-fashioned games loaned and hosted by the Ringueta.

Farm animals make an appearance in town!

This activity attracts a great deal of children and visitors of all ages, who are free to pet donkeys and "Monbéliarde" cows to their hearts' content.

The farm also includes pigs and piglets, a horse, sheep, goats, rabbits and poultry of every description...

La Ringueta 19th and 20th May in Sarlat

The Sarlat Ringueta is a festival celebrating the traditional games of the past. An opportunity to revisit childhood and to discover how our grandparents amused themselves.

Situated in the Place de la Grande Rigaudie, the visitors can have a go at up to 30 traditional Occitan games, played in the days when people spoke the local dialect the " Langue d’Oc".

For example the "Rampeau"; a throwing game played with 3 skittles and a ball, the aim being to knock down the skittles and to achieve a "rampeau";

The Barrel Rodeo, a game mostly played by children who must sit astride an old barrel threaded onto a 20cm thick pole and pull themselves along by tugging on a rope without falling off - and other traditional games such as the Mâts de Cocagne, (climbing a greasy pole), the Jeu des Oies, (throwing hoops over the necks of real geese), stilt races and Tug of War.

After the thrills and efforts of the games you can reward yourself with a real Perigoudian meal prepared, of course, with local produce – good food and a convivial atmosphere guaranteed!

The Ringueta is an event which the people of Sarlat make sure they never miss. It takes place on Whitsun Sunday in even numbered years only.
