The Corrèze
Nestled between the Auvergne and the Aquitaine, the Corrèze offers visitors a patchwork of delightfully contrasting, yet harmonious landscapes full of wonderful promise.
Heritage in all its guises
Our country churches, castles sculpted from granite and sandstone, and picturesque villages with attractive slate- or lauze-roofed houses are all well worth the detour! As a result of their unique character, six of our villages (Collonges-la-Rouge, Curemonte, Saint-Robert, Ségur-le-Château, Treignac and Turenne) have been officially recognised as some of France's most beautiful villages by the "Association des Plus Beaux Villages de France". Our traditional arts and crafts play an equally important role in the Corrèze, with the emphasis on the highest possible quality.
Wide-open, natural beauty
Nature-lovers will be bowled over by the unique beauty of the Corrèze's natural and unspoilt landscapes, such as the Plateau de Millevaches, the gorges and valley of the Dordogne, Massif des Monédières, Vézère valley, the Causse Corrézien etc. A thousand footpaths criss-cross the landscapes of the Corrèze, which in places date back several millennia, passing lakes, waterfalls, forests and our famous peat bogs along the way.
Leisure pursuits : a wealth of choice
For those who prefer to spend their holidays in the great outdoors, the Corrèze has plenty of exciting outdoor activities to keep you well and truly occupied: 2,500km of cycling and mountain biking routes and footpaths, 5,000kms of riverbanks for freshwater fishing enthusiasts, over 30 recreational lakes, canoeing and kayaking routes on the Corrèze, Vézère and Dordogne, river trips by bateau-mouche and traditional gabares on the Dordogne, aerial pursuits in the Dordogne valley, plus much, much more! Whatever your choice, you will feel part of a unique, unspoilt landscape.
Events : a wide variety of cultural activities
The Corrèze offers visitors a wide variety of cultural activities, including theatre, concerts, exhibitions, folklore performances, themed events etc. The most famous are the Vézère, Sédières, Saint Robert, Nuits de Nacre, and Orchestrades Universelles festivals, the book fair in Brive-la-Gaillarde, equestrian events at Pompadour, as well as myriad food festivals dedicated to strawberries, apples, walnuts, blueberries and chestnuts...not forgetting the winter duck and goose fairs (foires grasses) in Brive-la-Gaillarde.
Wonderful moments
Whether you're exploring the region by car, sampling the local cuisine on offer at our charming hotels; enjoying a family break in a country gîte or under canvas; or staying in one of our holiday camps, it's hard to find a better backdrop than the restful, invigorating and verdant Corrèze! Far from the stresses of daily life, your only problem will be choosing from such a wonderful array of activities on offer!
